Neuromuscular Therapy

What is Neuromecular Therapy? Simply, it's a form of soft tissue manipulation that aims to treat the underlying causes of chronic pain involving the muscular and nervous systems.

"What I used to find as a massage therapist was that sometimes, no matter how hard I worked an area, there was little adaptive change. This was because I was only working the structure (hardwear) and not the nervous system (software) that was ultimately controlling how the muscles were behaving. We would say that the tissue was in a contractured state or a subtle spasm. Tissue behaving in this way requires a totally different approach and once identified and subsequently released, it can make huge differences to pain and discomfort.

So the skill/ experience comes in being able to identify how the tissue is behaving. Quite often I hear the phrase, "I've torn my calf!". Actually what has often happened is that due to over stimulation of the nervous system some of the calf muscle fibres have been pulled incredibly taut and cannot relax as a protective mechanism. Any unwanted movement will feel painful. The fibres aren't torn but in a contractured state. This is neural. I could massage the calf forever but little would change. The nerves need to be re-educated to relax and allow function to return. This is where Neuromuscular techniques come in to their own of which dry needling is one of many.

Neuromuscular techniques raise soft tissue therapy to a new level.

"Mark and I run a personal training company called SPT. We had heard about Rob as he came with an excellent reputation. We commonly see new clients with some kind of physical limitation to movement or injury. Whilst we can identify these things we, without hesitation, send them Rob’s way to help resolve their issues.
I can honestly say the work he does is phenomenal for our clients. Everyone who sees Rob (many have never seen any physio let alone had acupuncture) comes back to us singing his praises. He is an expert in his field and the most cheerful personable character to boot who can put anyone at their ease.
Sometimes we have clients who have put up with niggling aches and pains for years and it’s hard to get them to believe they can fix the issues with the help of some remedial intervention from Rob. People think it’s going to be really expensive but they are often relieved that their perception is wrong and actually his price point is great value; he is often able to remedy an issue within one session, much to the client’s amazement and delight.
To our mind he simply is the only person we would recommend for injury referral. His feedback is key to our client’s ongoing improvement and beyond what most companies would provide. Our business is better for being able to work with a great professional like Rob Date."
